So why does it matter that she was supposed to frame Cameron and not Jonathan? Though he was coy about details, creator Chris Fedak said that the moment is extremely significant for several reasons.
At the end of the episode, Jonathan goes back to prison, but Fedak hinted that viewers should "absolutely" root for him to get out -- eventually. No one should think that this will be the show for the next five years, and maybe Johnny will get out at the end [of the series].
In short term, Fedak promises that while opportunities for Jonathan to be out in the field with the rest of the team may be limited you know, being behind bars and all , the show will peel back the curtain on his prison world a little bit more. Jonathan and Cameron [together] are a big part [of the story].
That aspect of Jonathan's story is about to heat up, not cool down. Sure, there are shows with African-American women in supporting roles. The best friend, the back-up cop, the hardly seen judge, the once-per-episode-and-only-for-a-few-seconds staff Sargent, but rarely in the leading role.
Admittedly, I watch neither show. It seems like all the television shows I think are smart, witty and so-dang-good get cancelled after their first season. Despite their similarities, Deception has been cancelled after its first season due to low ratings 3-million on its last episode compared to 8. And I can tell you why the same will not happen to Scandal …. Scandal is one of the few shows whose primary viewership is African-American women between years old.
Plus, according to its viewers, Scandal is pretty good. So, as you can see, Deception was already having an identity crisis.
You come across as fake and your audience can read through it. I experienced this early in my business. I found a guru I admired and tried to follow her process. I even tried to design my story so it modelled hers.
But I was unhappy. And confused. And so too were my early clients. Deception lost its groove because the network wanted it to be one thing like Scandal , but critics compared it to something else Revenge. So going into the finale, how will this all come to a close? We know that Cameron and the mystery woman will be facing off in a battle of the deceptions.
Cameron is going to try and outsmart her, while the mystery is going to be doing the same to Cameron. So he will have to think two steps ahead of her if he wants to beat her.
In addition, he and Johnny have a better chance at beating her if they can figure out her end game. So what could Alistair Black possess that the mystery woman desperately wants?
Could it be the skull that Gunter found?
