For almost eight years, Daniel's grief-stricken parents Denise and Bruce Morcombe have pushed for "one piece of evidence" that would unlock the mystery into their son's disappearance.
When Police Commissioner Bob Atkinson phoned just after 5pm on Saturday just as Assistant Commissioner Mick Condon "almost simultaneously" knocked on the door of the Morcombes' Palmwoods home, Bruce Morcombe knew that key element may have been discovered.
In emotional scenes yesterday, they faced the cameras again warning there was still much work to do. We're true to our word. THE father-of-three charged with the murder of Daniel Morcombe will face a packed courtroom in Brisbane this morning.
While he cannot be identified, the year-old was one of the central figures in the recent inquest into the disappearance of Daniel. He will appear in Brisbane Magistrates Court today charged with one count each of murder, deprivation of liberty, child stealing, indecent treatment of a child under 16 and interfering with a corpse.

There have been some cracks in P7's testimony, including over details of his previous offending. P7 had given a story yesterday providing another potential alibi, saying another man was at the drug dealer's house as well. The Morcombes said this morning that they have been surprised by this shift in emphasis to P7. However another convicted paedophile, P5, appeared at the inquest earlier this week and his movements on the day of the disappearance also cannot be accurately accounted for.
On the following day, P5 admitted to being on the very same road from where Daniel disappeared. It was put to P5 that the crime is not only incredibly rare - the random abduction - but also it is very common for criminals in these cases to return to the crime.
P5 was told that, like this man, he was one of the very few people in Queensland or Australia that had shown the capability to commit a random abduction and who was there at the time. The inquest is to run another week, moving back to the Sunshine Coast near the boy's home.
