Uwo what is a passing grade

With a sudden stop to classes and a swift move to online learning due to COVID, Western is offering the option to switch from numerical grades to pass or fail. We are also extending the deadline to drop a Winter half course or a full year course without academic penalty. The USC is here to represent the student voice at that table. So, we have been advocating nonstop to make sure that our students have the appropriate accommodation for this very unforeseen circumstance.

This is something that none of us have really lived through, the last time we faced a similar situation was with the Spanish flu. A: The USC was pushing the university for something like this for a while. Instructors should follow the standard University percentage equivalent for letter grades see below. Instructors may use other equivalencies, but in such cases must show the scale used in the syllabus and also announce the scale they use orally early in the course. While instructors may choose to supplement or replace the standards below with other criteria more directly relevant to their particular disciplines, the following chart provides sample grade interpretation guidelines:.

The University-wide system of percentage equivalents is shown in the table below. Faculty members may deviate from this scale; however, if they do so, they must indicate, in their course syllabus, the percentage equivalency system they use. It is the responsibility of both students and faculty to comply with the final exam policy.

Final exam guidelines are listed below:. The following are examples of the method of computing the grade-point average: A student receiving 16 credits of B has earned 48 grade points. A student receiving 16 credits of which 8 credits are B and 8 credits are C has earned 40 grade points. Grade Change A course grade change must be approved by the instructor, chairperson and dean.

Incomplete Grades Under certain circumstances, during the final grading process an Incomplete Grade Contract may be completed, approved and signed by the instructor, student and department chair. Credit by Examination Credit for general studies courses and major field courses may be obtained by taking a CLEP exam College-Level Examinations Program or a comprehensive test designed by the academic department for which the test-out applies.

Students may receive credit by examination if they: Are eligible to enroll at Missouri Western; Are not currently enrolled in a course for which an examination is being requested; Are granted written permission by the Testing Coordinator or the chairperson of the department to which the test would be applicable.
